I couldn’t stand the old drab yellow…

Points for discussion:
*DIBS is a jerk
*The turquoise vs. a deeper blue
*White moldings
*Excellent taste in decorating

PS I used Glidden true Turquoise that I got from HD. Amazingly it was $15 a gallon and was as good as painting with Benj Moore, Sherwin Williams or anything else considered higher quality

  1. vinca, that’s an oil reproduction of “A Good Book” by a french artist of the early 1900s.

Every Victorian mantle needs a nude over it!!!!

  2. i think it’s beautful. reminds me of the turquoise room bunny williams did for the kips bay designer showhouse last year, which was masterful.

  3. I love the turq. I thought it would look too cold but it looks very light and airy. But the furniture and carpet now seem a bit too dark. Any plans dibs?

  4. From the photos, I preferred the yellow, which looked warmer and more interactive with your furniture. But nice job, regardless. A new coat of paint, especially in bolder, brighter colors, always lifts my spirits. This turquoise looks very much like a Tiffany blue on my screen. Is that true? Is there a reason we can’t discuss the painting over the mantel? It might aid a discussion about whether DIBS is a jerk…

  5. Trust me Kens, it took a long time to sell myself on this. Darker blue, a dark red or even a deeper yellow were all possibilities but I didn’t want it to feel “heavy” and “Victorian” or in the case of a blue, too “early American Williamsburg.”

I got a deep mango yellow in Philly and love it but don’t need to see it everywhere.

  6. The original is actually less striking and more drab in real life.

The trim is Benj Moore Marble White which is definitely an off-white.
