Can anyone identify this problem: first, the downdraft security switch on top of the boiler was being tripped several times. We have a chimney cap but we might need a better one. I reengaged the switch several times over the past three days. However, now the boiler is off and won’t come on anymore, without the downdraft switch being tripped. Are these two separate problems (chimney as well as boiler)? And if so, what’s the issue with the boiler? Thanks!

  1. Sometimes the spill switch, if it’s tripped a few times, goes bad. Apparently you can not reset them forever. I’m no expert by any means on this, but we just had one go bad after being tripped a few times when the chimney was relined and open for a time. The sensor was replaced and so far so good.

  2. You’re describing a problem where your carbon monoxide spill switch is being activated to shut off your boiler. You need a chimney company to inspect and repair your chimney. Quickly, try A&A or Big Apple Chimney. Don’t play around with this.
