So I went to the basement of my new apartment and checked out the boiler/meter situation. I saw the different meters and boilers. I had my girlfriend turn on the heating so I can distinguish which boiler is ours. After determining which one belonged to us, I touched the huge tank that says hot water. It was not hot at all and felt empty. I touched the other one and it felt full and hot. I was wondering if there’s anyway we are sharing the hot water with the other apartment, even though they are obviously setup for independently. Who knows!!! Sigh this is driving me nuts.

  1. Most hot water tanks have 3″ of insulation all around them. A tank full of hot water may neither feel hot to the touch nor give any clue as to whether or not it’s full of water, except to feel the outlet pipe or relief valve.
