Custom Glass Bottle 2.5 Liters

My girlfriend’s mother had been holding a 3 liter bottle of cognac from Patras Greece for 25 years “until the day my daughter gets married”. This bottle is well over 50 years old though. Over the weekend my girlfriend and I moved into our own place. That same day she also bought an Android phone with a rebate. I asked her mom to pass me an envelope to mail in the rebate. As she grabbed the envelope a small workout weight fell on the bottle and cracked it open spilling 0.5 liter of the cognac. She quickly grabbed the bottle and turned it upside down to prevent any more loss. I was wondering if I can find a place where they can create a custom 2.5 liter glass container to store the salvaged cognac.
like tmod says, put it in a decanter with a stopper. That’s what they’re for.
Now, let’s get some definitions straight. Metaxa IS NOT Cognac. Cognac is a brandy made in certain regions of France. The word Cognac is legally controlled.
To me, Metaxa barely qualifies as a brandy. It’s more like a liqueur. While it may start life brandy-like, it has white wine and spices added.
Frankly, the only reason to drink Metaxa over brandy or cognac would be national pride.

I know something about “finance” although many here would say i do not. I know very little about “fiances.”
@dibs finance not yet. Dec 3 where? 🙂
Oh, and congratulations on the upcoming wedding. Why don’t you and your fiancee come to the Dec 3 get together and we’ll do Ouzo toasts!!!
But to answer the question, just put it in a glass or crystal wine carafe with a stopper and store it in a cool, dark cabinet.
Have you seen the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding?”
Just store it any old empty whiskey bottle or, if you feel the need for penance over this situation, go to someplace like Bloomingdales and buy a cut glass bottle with a nice glass stopper. That might make the prospective mother-in-law a lot happier and the wedding will likely go more smoothly and the dowry will be bigger.

Congratulations – looks like you’re gettin’ hitched sometime in the next several months.

“Cognac should be stored vertically in a dry, dark space. Unopened cognac may be stored for quite a while in ideal conditions as it does not age in glass. Opened cognac, unlike wine or port, may be stored once opened for up to six months but it runs the risk of oxidizing and losing both volume and flavor.”
