Can you please speak to why you switched from Chubb to State Farm? Was it the rate alone? I’m curious to hear of people’s experience in turning in claims – which companies were a nightmare to work with and which ones responded quickly?

Thanks, all.

  1. I second Dave’s experience with Chubb. They agreed and were paid for a certain amount of insurance, and after the fact they “re-appraised” the property and doubled the amount they thought we needed and of course asked for more money. We pulled out also.

  2. It was largely a matter of price. I got annoyed with Chubb after my brownstone purchase. They consistently value properties well above what they are really worth based on what they perceive to be replacement construction costs. How many times does a home actually burn to the ground??? I switched to State farm. I had autos with them in PA and liked dealing with the people. i used Sylvia in the Fulton Ave office here in brooklyn. I probably cut my premiums in half with what i feel are more than acceptable coverage. I also got an umbrella from them.

Touch wood, I’ve never had a claim
