Any tips for a new Brooklyn resident about the best places to find the best deals? Tips in and around Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo and Cobble Hill especially appreciated.

  1. So no leads on live tress then, uncut? Is it uncommon to buy one that you can plant in the ground after christmas?

  2. We bought an 8ft. tree at Home Depot in Gateway Center for $29.99 on Black Friday. The tied it to the car and everything. I highly recommended it.

  3. If you have no fear of ordering produce from freshdirect and clothes online without trying them on first then you might be brave enough to order a tree online.

here is a list of few

We’ve ordered from the fifth one, Frederick twice before and were very happy. However they are no longer in business

    Pros:
    more variety of species
    generally cheaper
    generally free shipping
having it delivered to your door
Fresher tree, generally they are cut and at your house within 3 to 4 days not on a lot for over a week

    Cons:
You don’t pick it out yourself
you have to cut the stump yourself when you get it, not really that hard but you’d rather not.

  4. Are there any places that sell live trees (not cut) that you can plant in your yard after christmas?

  5. Second that for St. Ann’s church at Montague and Clinton. The same crew from Vermont is there every year. Nice trees, all sizes.

  6. Thanks everyone. I ended up spotting some trees outside the Key Foods on Atlanic Avenue (on Clinton Street, I believe). They were quite pricey ($65 for a five-foot tree and stand) but we decided the convenience was worth it.

  7. I second the Brooklyn Terminal Market for price and selection. This is where the gypsy on the corner buys his trees.
