Close to Manhattan - but without a close to Manhattan price
I have a feeling I’m going to get pounced on for posting this. You guys can be rough on people. I’m looking for a good sized one bedroom close to Manhattan for $1350. Any apartment hunting suggestions? I know about craigslist. A lot of the apts on there are scams. Rent control would be great…

I know you’re all tired of people moving to Brooklyn, but if it helps my first year living away from home was in Brooklyn 😉 Seriously, I need ot get out of Jersey, please help. Thanks.
LOL, 12:15.
And NJ is where fashion goes to die?
Indeed, Kensington is the white hot center of arts and culture. I am simply saturated with culture and arts each day as I make my way to the Church Ave F train station. In any case, I brought up Astoria for the original Jersey-dwelling poster to consider as an alternative. Not trying to start a culture war.
No 12:09, East New York is a good place to die. Queens is where you wish for a death that never comes. Staten Island is where you die inside.
queens seems like a nice place to die.
Nothing about Queens is hip. It’s a fine place, but it’s not a center for the arts and culture, which is what makes places like Manhattan and then Brooklyn “cool”
Ah, 12:00, you sound like everyone I knew back in ’92 when I told them I was moving to Brooklyn. Joke’s on them now.
Don’t be a jerk Brooklynnative. This is a person who wants to escape Jersey! We need to help and guide this poor Garden State soul, not mock him or her.
Astoria is in Queens.
No thank you.
I live in Kensington. May I suggest Astoria, Queens to you? Seriously, Kensington is about an hour from midtown on the F train, there are very limited amenities, and it’s kind of dirty. There’s a large Russian and Orthodox Jew population (not that this is inherently a bad thing, and it makes for some interesting culinary experiences, but if you aren’t comfortable around Russians and Jews, this is not the place for you). On the plus side, I have a tremendous 2 bedroom apartment, and it’s pretty close to Ditmas Park, where there are a few nice restaurants, and it’s not THAT far from Windsor Terrace, but I really don’t like the ‘hood and will be moving when my lease expires next summer.
Seriously, Astoria is great.
Lots of luck.
