anyways, i’ll be living with two other kids who are also attending brooklyn. we’re moving to BK in august.
i know the city and brooklyn pretty damn well, i’ve got the street smarts and the transportation system down, but… i’ve never lived in either place.
so here’s where i need your opinion:
we’re looking at living in midwood or bensonhurst…however, i’ve heard bensonhurst is much cuttier than it lets on. is this true?
i’ve also heard great things about midwood and park slope- but park slope seems way out of our budget.
we’re trying to find a place that is biking or walking distance of the school- or at least somewhat close to convenient transportation (i dont think any of us wants an hour long commute!)
i’m just wondering if anyone had ANY advice for 3 new brooklynites- where to live, what to avoid? neighborhoods you’d recommend- anything!

PS let’s get this straight for any of you anti-gentrification jerks: i’m not moving to brooklyn because it’s cool, because it’s what the cool white kids are doing- i’m moving to brooklyn to further my education, to be closer to a massive film/tv market, to do my thing. i’m not trying to live in some gross hipster neighborhood, i’m trying to live somewhere a little more family oriented. i’m a student, not a threat. thanks.
Bensonhurst is fine. Laughable that it would be considered “cutty.” N and D/M trains are easily accessible.
Hey OP, Crown Heights is NOT a horror story. You should have seen the vibe at Franklin Park on Sunday – it was so full – we couldnt get a table, with all of the hipsters drinking their beers inside and out. Where did they all come from ??????
never heard “cutty” before either… is it british slang? doesn’t sound very much like it would come out of urban america.
haha im sorry. cutty=dangerous, desolate, etc. not a good place for an 18-year-old girl to be.
i’ve heard so many horror stories about places like crown heights and east new york, i’m just trying to make an informed decision.
i do apologize if i came off as rude. i’ve posted on a lot of forums and just get SO much trouble for it, being called hipster scum, all that jazz.

actually, that passive aggressive approach rules in some industries – I’ve been there – and I think this was posted by a parent pretending to seek advice for their kid – a passive aggressive parent.
