Hi! I have been reading posts here for the past month and have found them very useful, even though my home is a prewar coop in the UWS.
I hope someone can help me with this problem: I have a dining room with mahogany panelling (circa 1911) and I have to move a doorway three feet. (To make my nonfunctional kitchen, more functional.) That means that a section of panelling has to be removed and moved over and patched. I have someone to do the restaining, but I am nervous when the contractors I talk to say, “no problem.” I am looking for a skilled restoration carpenter or someone who can remake the panelling to match and is willing to do a small job. Any suggestions? PS. My coop requires licensed and insured people to do the work.

Your advice and help would be much appreciated, as I am tearing getting greyer by the minute about this challenge.

  1. Thank you for your suggestion. I have emailed Nate and will call him too, as I can see it is a bit hard to get to him.

Does anyone have any experience with Franco woodworking?

    Thanks!

  2. I don’t know if he works in Manhattan, but you could call Nate at South Slope Woodworks. He knows everything about brownstone woodwork and could probably help you.
