I am looking at a place in a 90-yo brick masonry building with 24-in thick walls. Recent demolition and construction on an adjacent property has caused numerous and significant cracks in the exterior and interior walls (back wall adjacent to construction and side wall perpendicular to construction). A recent inspection cites damage as having the potential to compromise structural integrity. Most cracks are 40in-80in long and 1/8 inch wide. Should I be as concerned as the gloom and doom report?

  1. That’s a scary article.
Anyone else encountered this? As the OP asked, should they be concerned about the report?
In other words, does a crack like that mean it will eventually be ‘perilous to life’?
