I’m looking for a recommendation for someone to dig out about a foot of a basement and finish it off. The current basement is a 12 x 20 room with a ceiling height of about 6’2″. There is a bathroom in the basement that needs gutting as well. Any recommendations for a solid construction crew or trustworthy contractor would be much appreciated.

You may need to underpin as the poster above rightly pointed out. You’ll never know until you dig a test pit and determine the depth of your foundation footings. I have done the last six basements with a fellow named Roman. He is excellent, clean, and fast. If you need to underpin, he is capable of this too.

we are looking at teh same thing and got some great advice from Jeremy at Prospect architecture.
We have the same height of ceiling and would liek an extra foot.
You need to go down about ywo fet, which means the walls need underpinning.
Its quite a big job — you cant just dig it out and finish it.
