Wheels Starting to Turn at Kane and Hicks?

i live a block away on columbia street- they’ve finally been doing work on the site, but i agree that these apartments must get a lot of noise. if i am on my cell phone when i cross the bqe on kane, i can’t hear a thing because the traffic is so loud. And the view of manhattan will be totally obscurred on that corner…but i love our neighborhood.

does anyone else think it is some kind of cult that has irresistable power over people’s minds?
the place has the ambiance of “odd Job” but none of the useful stuff.
i dont get the “mid 1980’s USSR bread queues”.
the stuff is just not that great.

The Cobble Hill Association doesn’t give a rat’s ass about what goes on west of the BQE. The Columbia Street area has no political clout.
I knowit’s not in the district, but thought that might carry some weight. And of course they’re not obliged to submit anything, but maybe the neighborhood assoication could be pro-active and work with them.
In terms of BQE views — what about the apartment building on Clermont and Park — the windows look right out on the BQE — but the building isn’t horrible and the apartments themselves are nice. You don’t get a lot of noise from the BQE — guess they used good windows, and they supply pretty nice blinds to block the BQE view, if desired…so an OK rental building might be possible. There certainly is demand enough in the area.
Its not historic district…and I don’t think any developer is supposed to submit facade design to any neighborhood organizations.
Look what was built one block up on corner of Baltic (don’t forget these apts. will get full view and noise from BQE trench).
My gut feeling looking at owner and architect on bldg dept website is look forward to bland ugly Fedders.
Why not? Isn’t this a pretty good location — is it zoned PS 29? And don’t the neighborhood assoications have any pull — it’s close to the Cobble Hill historic district, etc.
7 story – 12 unit building say the permits with building dept.
Rental or condo – who knows.
But don’t expect anything other than Fedders building.
