A few weeks after the Port Authority announced that Andre Balazs wouldn’t develop a hotel at JFK Airport’s TWA Terminal, word is that something new is in the works. Queens Chronicle reports that Port Authority will announce soon that the building will be open to the public. They expect to announce plans of its future use in the coming months. The Port Authority occasionally opens up the space for public view, but it is unclear how often they plan to keep it open and what they’ll keep it open for. As for any future development plans, Port Authority is keeping quiet on details. It seems that the hotel plans fell through partly because the Eero Saarinen-designed terminal is landmarked, and any hotel project must be designed so the structure does not obstruct views of the terminal building from any angle.
