church
We got an email this week from from a reader who checks Brownstoner once a week (that’s it?) to look for news on her home nabe of Cobble Hill. She’s particularly curious to find out what’s going to happen with the Strong Place Baptist Church on the corner of Strong Place and Degraw Street. She heard from some neighbors that the original buyers had so much trouble with Landmarks that they sold it and the new owners plan to turn it into a school. Anyone have the skinny? GMAP

  1. my daughter possibly wants to get married in this church, her granparents were married there in 1947,and I grew up in this church, what a wonderful
experience this would be for all of us to continue,
our families legacies and traditions,it would be most spiritual,im touched to look at this picture

  2. i live a block away from the church and want to get married in it. both my fiance and i live and love the neighborhood as well as this buckling piece of history.
do you know how to contact anyone in regards to a non denominational wedding here?

  3. I live right across the street. The day care center has been closed for a while now. When I moved in this spring I heard that it might become condos but I have no definite info. It is true that it is falling apart in a romantic way. My cats like to watch the pigeons that nest in the windows. There are at least three churches in the area that have been turned into residential units: one on Court, one on the BQE (Hicks), and one on Clinton. I always wondered who actually owns the church. Status quo is okay by me: no one looks into my windows and I won’t be thrilled about construction noise when that day finally comes.
