The New York Daily News reports that plans are in store for the shuttered Peninsula Hospital in the Far Rockaways. The non profit V.I.P. Housing and Services wants to transform the building into independent living for seniors with an adult day care program and transitional housing for returning veterans. Rockaway residents want the hospital to reopen as a hospital, as the 2012 closure left the area with only one hospital, St. Johns Episcopal.

Current property owner Michael Melnicke purchased the building back in 2012 for around $24,000,000. It is now asking $16,000,000, although the CEO of V.I.P. Housing and Services believes the price is steep, considering the number of renovations and repairs needed. V.I.P. Housing and Services will present a detailed plan of its proposal to Community Board 14 in February.
