New Nabe? It's All About The Taint
How’s this for a new neighborhood name? Taint. As in, “T’aint Clinton Hill and T’aint Williamsburg.” For some reason, the area between Classon and Broadway on the East-West axis and Myrtle and Flushing on the North-South doesn’t really fit into either neighborhood. Increasingly, however, in addition to the Hasidic specials in the area, more developments aimed at displaced hipsters are popping up. On Friday, we looked at 609 Myrtle. We also noticed a smaller-scale reno underway at 195 Classon between Myrtle and Park.
i propose “MYBED” since Myrtle is the main avenue and Bedford is considered by many to be the dividing line of Clinton Hill and Bed-Stuy. Has a nice ring doesn’t it? Hey isn’t there a party in MYBED tonight?
chotal
you all are idiots-that entire classon area will be millions-b-k all day-now get a life

in certain parts of Rhode Island, the taint is referred to the ‘salty biffen.’
“there’s another word for “taint”, maybe a little bit more obscure though, the word is “choda”.”
i prefer the term baunch.
How about Old Navy?
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Since I lived in Williamsburg and used to travel through it on the way to other parts of Brooklyn, I have been trying to popularize an acronym name for this neighborhood: ABNY (Adjacent to Brooklyn Navy Yard). It doesn’t seem to have caught on though I think it has a better ring than Taint, regardless of connotations. I like Navy Hill even better.
Yes Myrtle Guy, the rumors are true. I’m working with MABP on the process of getting a part of the neighborhood landmarked. If anyone is interested, check out the Cultural Resource Survey on the nabe: http://www.myrtleavenue.org/WallaboutCulturalResourceSurvey.pdf. Or email me if you’re interested in our progress and plans (or would like to help).
The area discussed in brownstoner’s post is a little on the edges of the neighborhood (and outside of the Survey’s Study Area) but I guess it is still considered Wallabout, though it may just be some of those sections of the city that never really had a “neighborhood” moniker in the sense that we use them today.
