New House for 420 State Street?

There’s still a For Sale sign up on the fence, but public records show that the vacant lot at 420 State Street in Boerum Hill sold back in December for $525,000. Perhaps of greater interest to those in the area is that fact that in recent months plans have been approved for a four-story, single-family house at the site. Anyone have any reason to believe this will be a high-end project? GMAP
Yes, that was the site of the Walit’s house. That block has a street sign in honor of them. Not a landmarked block.
Lived on state street at the time and it sounded like hoyt-schermehorn station had exploded beneth me. Just terrible.
That’s correct, johnife…thanks for adding to the story. What I should have said is none of the neighboring row houses were damaged. It was a terrible tragedy that left deep scars for anyone who has a connection with that block.
That happened on my second or third day in Boerum Hill (previous tenants left early, so I had been able to occupy my new home a few days before my lease officially began). Even from 5-6 blocks away it was terrifying…much more so when I happened upon the scene a few minutes later.
found this article about the explosion:

BoeruHill,
One of the neighbors next door was definitely NOT okay. According to what I heard, he had gone over to the elderly couple’s house at their request to help after they smelled gas and at some point turned on a light switch which action triggered the blast, killing all in the house. That said, his partner, who remained in the house next door, was fine.
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but if this is the same place I am thinking of…that was the site of a huge gas explosion back in late June 2000. Anyone within a mile heard or felt it. Took down the entire townhouse (neighbors, amazingly, were OK – the force of the blast went straight out). It was a very sad; elderly retired couple had just returned from a week long vacation, lived in that home for 30-40 years. Well known and liked by all on the block.
Anyway, that was a decade ago…happy that someone will once again make this a home.
The lot cost half a mil. The plans are for a single family four floor house. Sounds high end to me.
Should have looked at the map. Looks like the cross streets are Bond + Nevins. I didn;t know that block was not landmarked.
Anyone know the dimensions of this lot and the cross streets? From DOB site, it looks like it is outside of the landmark area. I like to keep track of vacant land comps.
