We love it when people do our work for us…We live on 15th Street in brooklyn and for the past year and half have watched the demolition of a 2-story home at 105 15th Street and in its place has been the ongoing construction of a new 4-story apartment building. The construction seems to drag on and on without much apparant improvement as the months pass. Not only is the building exceptionally ugly (or so we think), but the construction site itself seems dangerous and we wonder if building codes are being violated. We are also just curious about the building (whose Property Shark profile is here), what they are asking for apartments, etc., so hopefully you can put it on the site for people to comment on. – J.S.
We sure can and we encourage others to send us your their own Neighborhood Watch submissions.
oh and buy the way, the building above is ugly
i always love people who know nothing about my situation commenting how i would ruin the neighborhood by developing my property into something nicer. why is developing a lot into a nice building always ruining the property and neighborhood. and by the way i had no intent to leave the neighborhood my goal was to come back after it was developed and live there. when all those brownstones were built in park slope there was somebody probably crying how getting rid of the farms were destroying the neighborhood. is it all possible that i might have built something extremely aesthetically nicer then what is there now. why is it that any devopment is evil and all must suck? has nobody ever built anything nice in brooklyn? yes i would make a lot of money selling off the house i, make a lot of renting it out but thats besides the point. regardless what i made buying it , i’m sure babs if someone did something to devalue your property 300 thousand dollars you might be upset too. so i ask you once more, why is it wrong to knock down some aluminum sided house built in 1910, where the entire building is crooked and always in need of repair and an eyesore on top of that better then building a nice in context non fedder style condo building? these houses are all over the south slope and greenwood this is what were preserving.
The owner of this place is a big car/motorcycle buff. I think he wanted the garage so he could park all his various penis substitutes in the back. Also rumor is that the top two floors on the left side are a duplex for the owner and his family.
Both the carriage house and this development suck! The middle portion is not part of the units it is the stairs.
The Carriage House is miles better than this place. I am not saying the Carriage House is cheap (it’s not), but it is well finished and with reasonably nice stuff. And it is just off 5th Ave, which, although not as nice here as in the North Slope, is improving quickly.
Fake windows? That is retarded. I wonder who is the architect that put their John Hancock on that one. The middle portion was obvious added to increase the sq. ft. It is horrible, it may add some privacy from the adjacent condo, but it blocks sun light as well. Bad design.
The apartments in this building were advertised for $599k on Craigslist a few months back – for a 2BR/2BA.
Compare this to the prices at the Carraige house on 15th b/w 5th and 6th. A conversion of a storage facility into a Fedders building (though none on the facade) and prices at $690k and up for 1 bedrooms.
That new sinkhole is HUGE! My husband has called 311 3 times since Friday because it is so big it could wreck a car. A bunch of cop cars (up to 6 at one time) were parked near the new developement the other night and we got excited that they were rushing to take care of the sinkhole. ha, ya right. probably just some domestic disturbance..
The thing that turns me off visually is the use of what are essentially pink cinderblocks on the facade. These cement masonry units were designed for commercial industrial applications as a step up from exposed cinder block. I go by this site daily and the housekeeping is very poor and indeed dangerous. DoT was there yesterday as a HUGE sinkhole opened up in the street where they installed the utilities. As for parking, as long as new construction has less than 10 units no off street parking is required. So, for example this development can split the addresses and have up to 18 units without parking. There is a new development on my block with 21 luxury units without any off street parking. As it is very likely that at least half the new owners will have cars, it will mean that everyone will be spending more time circling the block. Add to this the fact that almost every vacant parking lot is now in development. ( I was kicked out of my lot paying $250/month) By the way, I am not advocating car ownership or the right to park on city streets free of charge. If you have commercial plates you are not allowed to park over night on the street. The owner of my lot was clearing 6 grand a month for an outdoor space with no services but the money he can make selling condos will dwarf that amount. ANON 1;30 you have posted that same rant before. That shit house of yours is probably worth $700.00 to a developer. Why don’t you sell and move out. Buy one of the many new construction condos going up everywhere in the SSlope. You missed the train buddy. Real estate speculation is not for pussies. I could build a 50′ tall condo (allowed by R6B) on your lot and make a decent profit. I am ordering my pink masonry units right now…..and i will throw in a faux roman precast cement banister in …lets say..salmon for cost.
