We passed by 178 Smith Street a couple of days ago and noticed a new construction fence up and some workers getting down to business. As per the DOB Permit, the plan is to extend the first floor of commercial space to the rear lot line, as well as to enlarge the second and third floors. (This is currently a three-story wood frame.) repairing fire damage. that is an understatement. The 2nd and 3rd floors are totally removed at this point. Hard to see what is left now of street level.
