With closings and move-ins occurring every week, we thought we’d check in with one of the first buyers to move into Third + Bond, Monica S.
When did you first see Third + Bond, and when did you know it was the place for you?
I saw it for the first time on StreetEasy and scheduled an appointment immediately. It was love at first sight with my unit. Of course I went to see other places after but ended up coming back!
What other places did you look at before settling on Third + Bond?
Many brownstones in the area and a few new construction projects in Williamsburg.
Where did you live before Third + Bond? Where are you from originally?
I used to live in a hi-rise condo “75 Wall” in the Financial District (Manhattan). I was born and raised in Venezuela but lived in Europe for several years before moving to NYC.
What kind of work do you do? What neighborhood is your work/school in and what is the commute like?
I work in Fashion and work mostly in Midtown West. The neighborhood is hectic and there is not much to do after work but I really love downtown Manhattan which is perfect because it is well connected by train with Brooklyn. The F train is just great, all the stops work perfect for me.
When did you move in? It’s always a stressful day. How did it go?
I moved in the last week of January… Yes, that week that it snowed non-stop… It wasn’t easy at all but I guess I was so excited that I really enjoyed the whole process. Plus I am a lucky girl and my dad came all the way from Venezuela to give me a hand.
What a great dad! We hope he likes the building as much as you do. You were one of the first buyers to move in. What’s it like to live in a building as one of the first residents?
Uhmmm… There were a few final touches missing, small things… so I’ve been working closely with the management office to make sure everything will be perfect when the next buyers move in. They have been very helpful and on top of every single detail.
What is your favorite thing about the condo?
Love the big windows and natural light!
What is the biggest positive surprise about Third + Bond? What about the biggest negative?
The kitchen appliances. I love cooking and everything is just top of the line. No big negative yet.
You also purchased a roof terrace. What can you see from the terrace? What do you plan to do up there suntan, BBQ, read books, plant veggies?
I can see Park Slope, it is actually a great view. Plus there is a gorgeous tree on Bond Street that is going to add some green to it. I plan to do all of the above! I’m so excited about grilling in particular that I already bought a grill. I love cooking so planting all my spices is going to be fun and very useful plus suntanning, reading, cocktails. Can’t wait for the spring to be here.
What is your favorite place to eat dinner in the neighborhood? Where do you like to get coffee/cocktails?
Oh my god there are so many options. This is one of the main reasons I love living here. Dinner: “Prime Meats” and “Frankies 457″on Court St. Cocktails: “Brooklyn Social” on Smith St. Coffee: “Cafe Pedlar” on Court and “Building on Bond” on Bond St.
What are your favorite places to hang out in the neighborhood?
I don’t have any favorite places yet… but as soon as the weather gets better I’m planning to get a bike and go explore.
Have you met any neighbors either in the building or on the block? Do you have any friends who might purchase?
Haven’t meet anyone yet, I was actually thinking of maybe doing a little welcoming cocktail party at my place. Lots of my friends have already come to the Open House on Sunday and one of them may be interested in the 3 bedrooms with patio as an investment.
Awesome! We would be happy to sell a unit to any or all of your friends. Glad to have you with us at Third + Bond.

Oh Johnny – we are all just playing!
I think the Third and Bond units are very cool
I also agree with Stargazer with the idea that the next development that goes up should at least allow buyers to pick and choose their finishes and room sizes!!! – I think that would be an awesome way to get people in early and get them excited about buying said condo…..
Of course many rowhouses also had identical fixtures, etc when they were built. Since we don’t go into our neighbors’ apartments does it matter if they are identical or not? Or is the simple knowledge that we live in ticky tacky houses on the hillside and they all look the same which drives us crazy?

you were doing pretty well with the interview until you said ‘Awesome!’
Real classy comments.
Thanks for doing this series! Interesting to see how development actually works in practice.
Benson… OUCH!
good for monica! she seems nice
I wonder which has a higher maintenance fee: Monica, or the condo?

this makes me feel poor

Call her a “moonface” Rob. That usually seems to make you feel better.
I saw all the layouts in third and bond, and I wasn’t impressed…..
The building from the outside is extra nice, but wasn’t crazy for the same ole mono chromatic finishes every condo in the world is using.
It would be fun to have a “custom condo” where the sponsor was selling raw units and you can pick out the type of finishes, cabinetry, floors and all that yourself, so you do not have the same thing as every other tanant in the building.
