Downtown Brooklyn took another step towards world domination last week with DOB’s approval of Isaac Hager’s plans for a 21-story triangular tower at the intersection of Flatbush Extension and Tillary Street. The 150,000-square-foot building will house 108 residential units and reach a height of 262 feet. It will also be one of the first and most noticeable sights greeting drivers see as they reach the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge. Last time we posted this rendering it elicited rather strong reactions on both the postive and negative sides. We think it’ll be hard to tell whether it’s cool or cheesy until it’s actually built. Could go either way.

  1. yeah, daniel, i do know what is being considered for the site of the former kfc near emerson. pratt institute has entered into a joint venture with the current owner and plans to build a six-story (as of 7/31/07) building with ground floor retail, administrative offices and some academic studio space. don’t panic about the purchase of mcdonalds just yet; it will take a while before you gotta find other lunch opportunities.

  2. i luv this site. So very informative. As I work across the street I will prepare to look elsewhere for lunch other then Mcdonalds which poster said was purchased by a developer.Since there is such a wealth of info provided, anyone know what is happening with the former KFC site on Myrtle near Emerson.in Clinton Hill.by the post office..by the new Pratt Store. KFC has been closed for quite a while now and was just wondering if there are any plans to develop housing on that site. Oh , I live by there.

  3. 11:41 = clueless. this location is great – walking distance to dumbo, bk heights, and ft greene, tons of mass transit, and the redevelopment of fulton mall and continued resi development along flatbush-x will add tons of new higher end retail.

  4. fyi, 10:21, the mickey d’s site was purchased by a developer. oscar niemeyer? well, we’ll see. i suspect that the reason why we always see this perspective is because the corner will be the only interesting feature.

  5. How will it change? There will be more people not more services. Flatbush is not going anywhere, the entrance to the Manhattan bridge isn’t going anywhere the Tillary street entrance ramp to the BQE isn’t going anywhere. So just because someone who doesn’t understand what location means and buys one of these overpriced glass shit boxes doesn’t mean anything will change except the amount of people who will never gain equity in their homes.
