The toothpaste and toilet paper has been removed, the shutters pulled down and it’s now only a matter of time before the former Duane Reade building at 166 Myrtle Avenue meets its maker for the greater glory of the Downtown Brooklyn building boom. While the loss of a large, clean drugstore will hit residents of the nearby Ingersoll Houses in the short-term, presumably developer John Catsimadis (who made his first fortune in the supermarket business) will eventually have no problem getting some decent grocery and drugstore tenants in the base of his million-square-foot project, in whose footprint this tear-down falls. If, that is, he can get beyond that pesky Stop Work Order for not having adequate fencing protecting the site.

I’d settle for a walgreens or rite aid at this point, somewhere anywhere in clinton hill along with a barnes and nobles and starbucks.throw in a decent supermarket. then i will be happy.
Ahh, a Duane Reade shuttering. DR is the devil! Now we just need a nice, clean CVS or Eckert.
yes! yes! more! more!
build em high! build em often!
flatbush-x is the latest craze, kids.
we need to go back to building tenements.

While the drug store will be temporarily missed its great that something is finally being built on that strip.
I live in University Towers (right across from Myrtle on Willoughby) and we’ve been told to expect 3 separate apt buildings approximately 14-18 stories high from flatbush to ashland. anyone have any other information that reflects or disputes this?
Yep, that Duane Reade is gone and was quite a staple to all. Looking forward to a new grocery/pharmacy store in the near future.
