Some day the residents of this new building at 29 South 3rd Street in Williamsburg will look out on the New Domino cluster of buildings, but for now the 24-unit development looks out on the large empty lot across the street. GMAP P*Shark DOB

  1. The walk to the nearest subway looks terrible.

    Why oh why.

I’d rather walk 15 minutes through lava on S 3rd than live anywhere else – as would alot of other people. Hence why ugly stuff is selling in the nabe.

  2. I think the style looks quite good, but they have made it ugly by trying to be too clever.
No idea why the two sides of the building don’t match (roof, balconies), or the window panes on the top floor are a different pattern from those on the floor below. Makes a mess out of an OK concept though. Like one of those ‘spot the difference’ games.

  3. 11217, you were in Beirut in 1985? That’s cool. I didn’t realize it was so peaceful there back then. Kent is quiet, but there’s really no point in doubting that that will change. Once the Edge, both Northside Piers towers, 184 Kent, 111 Kent, 173 Kent, and other smaller buildings such as this one, are filled, I don’t see how amenities would stay away for much longer.

  4. Last friday I was looking at a redevelopment opportunity near this project. The building I was looking at was very old but magnificantly constructed and large enough to be reorganized into at least 4 comfortable homes. This part of Williamsburg reminds me of West Chelsea in Manhattan early 1990’s. I acquired some property there when it was scarey to walk around in the daylight – pre-condo and art galleries (with the exception of the DIA – and sold it after the neighborhood had morphed into the place it is today. Some real good property appreciation. I think this part of Williansburg will soon experience the same thing certain blocks of West Chelsea did. Will be a little noisy and messy as the Domino site is constructed but the end result should be quite an improvement with view corridors that provide not only scenic vistas but some more light and air for properties east of Kent.
