Development Watch: 29 South 3rd Street
Some day the residents of this new building at 29 South 3rd Street in Williamsburg will look out on the New Domino cluster of buildings, but for now the 24-unit development looks out on the large empty lot across the street. GMAP P*Shark DOB
It is no better and no worse than all the other new construction, hasidic developer stuff throughout the rest of the hood. This was a variance deal, so adjacent lots are still zoned for manufacturing (at least until the domino thing goes through). For these reasons you have a smattering of clubs, i.e. glasslands, Death by audio. restarants /cafes are moving in from south and north, i.e. Miss Favela, Williamsburger, Superior, Mercat…, but if you’re buying here you better enjoy long walks and a certain amount of solitude mixed with raucous late night bands and their fans. That’s my $.02
This is a nice looking project, though I can’t really figure out the retail piece fronting on Kent. This started life as a 19-story variance project, but for once, BSA wasn’t having it. If you are thinking of buying here, take a look at the Domino EIS first – the lot to the south is slated for 14 stories, and across Kent there will be 30 and 40 stories towers (and a restored landmark, waterfront esplanade and open space).
I’m moving to south williamsburg from fort greene and really hoping the area will develop like fort greene/clinton hill has over the past 12 years… just don’t want to wait 12 more years 🙂
HAHAHAHA dh.
Got me there.
🙂
“Yeah, babies and fresh vegetables ARE so much more annoying than coked out 23 year olds who are living off mom and dad. ”
I can’t have sex with babies and fresh veggies. so yeah – they are.
I should have put a wink by that last comment, bjw.
You know I have a love/hate relationship with Williamsburg but I was there this weekend and had an overwhelming urge to punch nearly everyone I came into contact with in the face.
Especially the girls outside Fette Sau who were complaining that the celebs on the Haiti telethon weren’t styled well. You know…cause that was the reason for the telethon, afterall. Style and fashion.
Even though, if you were unaware of the hipster culture, one would have mistaken said girls for homeless people who found huge sunglasses in the trash.
Yeah, babies and fresh vegetables ARE so much more annoying than coked out 23 year olds who are living off mom and dad.
You’re so right.
Gowanus definitely has potential but it really isn’t and ‘edge’ condition as west Chelsea or Kent Ave is. It is more like a ‘donut hole’ condition, what ever that means.
Nearest subway to west side highway, 11th Ave, in Manhattan around the 20’s is like a 20 min walk. Did it a couple thousand times.
Anyone have any intel on the quality of this development – 29 South 3rd?
11217, are we playing the generalizing-about-the-entire-neighborhood game? If so, please stop clipping my heels with your unnecessarily enormous baby stroller(s) and raving on and on about local produce. It’s annoying.
