Pardon Me For Asking notes today that 333 Carroll Street, which has been frozen since March 2008, just got a new building permit approved by DOB. As you may recall, the conversion with the ungainly 40-foot addition got caught up in some Scarano-related square footage calculation shenanigans and slapped with a Stop Work Order. The owner subsequently brought in Karl Fischer to get the project back on track and PFMA says it looks like he may have beaten the downzoning of the neighborhood last month by a matter of days.

I hope they just do SOMETHING with that carcass. ANYTHING. Flesh it out, take it down, whatever.
God, Action Jackson, I hope you’re right… That extension is the bane of the ‘hood.
I agree with Abe. I’ve walked past, and it looks like the original building would make great apartments. Hopefully they won’t carve them up into tiny rabbit warrens though.
It’s a shame they saw the need to add that absurd extension. This would have made for a very nice conversion if it had been done within the scope of the existing structure.
All extensions/alterations, by my knowledge of the ZR, must be 100% complete to be grandfathered. It’s not like “substantially complete” rulings on foundations.
So I’ll bet this has to be trimmed considerably or appeal to the BSA.
I think that ferocious and coordinated neighborhood opposition can kill this, just like that curb cut won on the last day in Prospect Heights.
