There’s been a SWO on this Fedderstastic build on Conover and Van Dyke since July. Being that the construction basically looks complete, we’re wondering whether the developer’s problems go beyond having run afoul of the DOB. Plans called for a four-unit building, and it’s unclear whether it’s meant to be a rental or condo. Anyone in the Hook got the scoop on the hold-up here? GMAP DOB

  1. Are you kidding? The builder invested in something other than cheap metal linels! And installed masonary corners.

May not be to your glassy taste, but it’s hardly a Trump Senior building.

  2. Crazy zoning begets crazy buildings. 221 Conover is in MX-5 District which was created as part of the Fairway ULURP. The ground floor must be industrial or commerical and 49% of the floor area can be used for dwelling units. When designed by a competent architect, the outcome can be great (e.g. Fairway). The developer on this site is a bit of an a$$-clown. There are a couple more buildings like it on Beard Street. Folks in Red Hook are so jonsing for more residential that they’re willing to take projects like this. I would rather have a one-story light industrial building, warts and all, than this crap.
