Earlier this week The Brooklyn Eagle reported that a Brooklyn-based contracting company had begun pouring concrete for the Barclays Center. Forest City Ratner told the paper that the first two foundation footings were filled with 700 cubic yards of concrete from 80 mixing trucks. It’s hard to get a good shot of the site, but we’re assuming the action’s in the lower left of this photo.

  1. Isn’t this a big enough project to have a concrete plant built on-site? Trucking concrete in this city is so risky… there’s only about 90 mins between mixing and it becoming useless crud trapped (and hardening) in a mixing truck. It makes sense when there’s no room… but they have the room, don’t they?

  2. I don’t understand your huge animus towards unions, daveinbedstuy. I, on the other hand, am holding out hope that they’ll put Ratner into those footings. With 700 cubic yards of concrete from 80 mixing trucks, I’m sure they could find plenty of room to toss Emperor Bloomberg and our trained chimp, Markowitz, in there for good measure.

  3. Go back and see how fast they built the constantly spec changing courthouse at 12 MetroTech 330 Jay to learn who quickly FCRC builds. They will hit target. Already have over 150 acts booked for out years….. traffic will suck but BK will rock
