Exterior Close to Done at Woods Bagot's 33-Story Tower on Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn

The exterior is nearly complete at the Jay Street Residences, Woods Bagot’s mixed-use building at 203 Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn. When finished, the project will bring even more residential units to a neighborhood in the midst of a building boom.
The 33-story building’s windows are in and it looks to be most of the way complete on the outside, with the exception of some work on the roof.

The building sports rust-colored panels (not rusty steel) that alternate with bluish-colored glass, creating a contrast of colors and interesting geometric patterns. “The resulting pattern telegraphs the interior uses by increasing vision glass at living and dining areas while reducing vision glass at bedroom and bathrooms,” according to Woods Bagot’s site.
Permits indicate that the building will have 270 residential units across 230,456 square feet of residential space. Additionally, there will be 57,904 square feet of commercial space, and 1,744 square feet reserved for a community facility.

The building will have underground parking for 96 cars, a fitness center, and a residential lounge on the top floor.
The project, which will be rentals, is set to wrap this year, according to BuzzBuzzHome.

The developer behind the LLC in city records — 203 Jay Street Associates LLC — is the Clarett Group, according to BuzzBuzzHome. The Manhattan-based firm has worked on the redevelopment of Times Square and, in Brooklyn, the Brooklyner, which briefly had the distinction of being Brooklyn’s tallest building.
As for Woods Bagot, the prominent Australian architecture firm is also behind the redesign of the Bossert Hotel.

A seven-story office building that formerly occupied the site was demolished in 2014.
The project’s construction brings yet another residential building to Downtown Brooklyn, which has seen an explosion of new buildings since a rezoning in 2004. Hundreds of new apartments and mixed-use developments like City Point are bringing thousands of new residents to the area.
