A bulging and angular seven-story medical building is rising on a busy block in East New York.

Designed by Array Architects — who are responsible for a number of similar looking medical buildings across the country, including New York–Presbyterian Hospital — the new building at 101 Pennsylvania Avenue will house “ambulatory diagnostic or treatment health care facilities,” with 153 parking spaces, according to Schedule A filings. The former address was 91 Pennsylvania Avenue.

During a recent visit, it looked to be almost complete. Above the ground level, which has floor-to-ceiling windows, are three angled-floors wrapped with white perforated metal. Another three floors — angled, all glass and set back, are on top.

The building swells above its ground level, with sharp curves on each floor. But it remains antiseptic, in line with its purpose as a medical facility.

Although it looks quite modern and stands out on the block, it doesn’t quite have the same luminous glow as displayed in the renderings.

The interior of the ground floor is not finished. Exit signs and what appeared to be some furniture could be seen on some of the higher floors.

Developer Jonas Rudofsky purchased the property, a combination of two lots, for $5.5 million in 2015. The site was formerly home to the East New York Savings Bank, a four-story Renaissance Revival building that was demolished in 2015.

The demolition of the prominent and beloved building helped ignite a landmarking movement in East New York, which spurred the designation of the Empire State Dairy.

The medical building is in the middle of the rezoned area of East New York. According to a story in Commercial Observer, Rudofsky also placed a bid at the city’s request to house the Human Resources Administration in another building he is planning to develop on Atlantic Avenue.
