Seems that Forest City Ratner has reneged on plans to sell Jones Soda at the Barclays Arena, opting instead for an outfit you may have heard of called Coca Cola. Here’s Grub Street’s take on the news (broken by The Post):

So what’s with the switcheroo? “Our goal is making this arena all about Brooklyn — even the food and drink — and one thing that became clear to me is Brooklyn’s a Coke town,” says Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. Which is strange, because we sort of thought Brooklyn was a Brooklyn Soda Works town these days, or maybe a Brooklyn Farmacy kind of place. But guess not. More Sprite for everyone!

  1. Shouldn’t they be making their own soda? This is Brooklyn. Ratner doesn’t see the big picture. You could justify the exorbitant prices by saying it is artisanal. A $4 egg cream becomes the new $8 ballpark experience. They could even get a booth at the Brooklyn Flea to sell the soda and promote the stadium at the same time.

  3. There is truly nothing related to AY that people wont make an issue of….Ratner never “promised” that it would use Jones soda, so he didnt “lie” or “renege”. Besides who cares that a SEATTLE based soda maker is being replaced by an Atlanta one?
It also might be important to mention that Jones apparently has significant financial issues and may have been unable/or unwilling to enter this deal in the 1st place.
As for “embracing the made-in-brooklyn trend”; please name a single Brooklyn soda manufacturer that is equipped to supply an Arena of people 300+ events a year????
