The light-colored brick that will make up the facade is climbing the steel and concrete skeleton at Hudson Companies’ high-rise on Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. The shape and look of the 23-story tower is now visible over the neo-Tudor facades of the recently landmarked Chester Court.

The brick at 626 Flatbush Avenue is up to about the 13th story. The building topped out in January. The architect is Marvel Architects and it should be ready for occupancy early next year.

  1. When I walked around Prospect Park yesterday, I REALLY HATED that this building is so much taller than the trees and was ruining my view of nature.

  2. This makes my heart sink. Neighborhoods don’t survive monoliths like this. Maybe the Dean Skelos scandal will strip the real estate industry of its ability to do whatever it wants wherever it wants?

  3. I hate that they’re not maintaining the street wall. This building seems to have a Flatbush Ave address but it’s pushed back, very non-urban…

    • The commercial portion of the building is maintaining the street wall. It’s sort of similar to the street wall on Sixth Avenue in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

  4. it’s an alright building, but it’s the only tower in the neighborhood, totally non-contextual and feels genuinely imposing from street level.

  5. could be worse. i’m going to assume those tiny windows on the front are for bathrooms–windowless bathrooms in post-war buildings are what bum me out the most.

  6. Oh I know. Whomever took this photo had to lterally lay down on the sidewalk to get this shot. Trying so so hard From some angles in the park it doesn’t look any higher than the 17 story pair of buildings that comprise Patio Gardens two blocks from this. And Ebbets Field houses buildings are visually much higher than any of these because it’s a huge tall building on elevated ground. I can’t believe people are still trying to claim those several decades old buildings don’t exist.

  7. It look atrocious from the Park. If they built this on Empire I wouldn’t care. Instead they’re building storage units. I assume because of the commercial zoning? I hope the zoning along the east side of the park is changed to prevent more like these. It is also already pretty congested along this section of Flatbush.
