We’ve followed the Gowanus hotel boom pretty closely, but this Best Western Plus in Greenwood/Sunset Park has flown under the radar. Last time we checked, the building was still going up, but over the weekend we noticed a grand opening sign hanging outside the completed building. According to the website, the “Best Western Plus Prospect Park” has 99 rooms and rates start around $130/night. What do you think of the location, on 4th between 24th and 26th?

I second what SunsetSunday said. The real Sunset Park is way nicer. 24th-26th Streets are the definition of No Man’s Land, and 4th Avenue in the 20’s so very blech.
There are some hotels around 39th street, including a Day’s Inn. That’s a much better location, close to the 36th express stop (2 stops to Manhattan!) and closer to an actual neighborhood. 24-25th is the deadpoint between Park Slope and Sunset Park. If people pick a hotel around there, I assume they’re doing it for the price, and some of the hotels around 39th street are a tat cheaper.
My parents are coming for Christmas and I thought they were staying here so I checked out the website…very misleading. It makes it look like you’re in the “heart” of BK when you’re actually in a no-man’s land. You’re closest store is going to be a Mexican deli where out-of-towners are going to feel like they’re in a different country. My suggestion? Walk ten blocks north and have a lot of drinks at Freddy’s.
It turns out my brilliant family is staying at a Best Western in freakin’ Brighton Beach! We live in center Slope. But they’ve got it all figured out…they’re renting a minivan to cart my brothers, their wives, and four kids around the city. WTF people? It’s not as if they’ve never been to NYC before so I have no idea what they are thinking. I think they just want to ruin our Christmas. I don’t even have 12 chairs in my apartment. We’re going to be eating Chinese on Christmas like a bunch of Jews…so stupid.
It’s extremely deceptive to out-of-towners to call this place the “Prospect Park.” I wonder if some of them look out their windows and wonder why the beautiful park we brag about is actually a cemetary…
I recalling reading somewhere that the architect is a bedbug.
Beautiful! Who is the architect? We need more buildings like this. When people see this photo they will think Brooklyn!!!
Some friends who live in park slope were talking about this place last weekend. Their parent from England stayed there very recently- they said it was basic, but really nice clean and well priced, and that it was probably more convenient than if they had put them at one of the places down in Gowanus. Subway stop next door. Quiet residential neighborhood.
Guests at the Best Western Prospect Park can enjoy their mile’s walk—uphill!—to Prospect Park.
