What you see above is a rendering of the hotel planned for a lot on Degraw Street between 3rd and 4th avenues, a property that’s set to be the latest addition to the swelling Gowanus Hotel District. The architect on the project is Kutnicki Bernstein, and its developer, Alec Shtromandel, reports that “we will be commencing work in 8 weeks time, and should be finished in 12 months.” Before this one’s finished, the hotel at President Street and 3rd Avenue, which is now almost fully constructed, should be open. Meanwhile, work’s under way at the future Fairfield Inn site on 3rd Ave between Douglass and Butler. All of which is to say that it’s seeming likely that six Gowanus hotels (existing stock=Le Bleu, Holiday Inn Express, and Comfort Inn) will be up and running in a year or so. Three additional hotels, meanwhile, are planned for the neighborhood. Councilman Bill de Blasio has categorized the Gowanus hotel boomlet as something of a red light district in the making. Time will tell!

You’re right, MotoGP, it’s very South Park-ish!
That rendering looks like a hotel in south park.

Clippy? Sounds like the name of a barber on the new Mr. Rogers type show superstooper referenced above.
Could see some hot Cattyshack crowd there coming from Europe for local action!!!
I did hear that Hotel Le Jolie (Hotel Le Bleu’s sister hotel in Williamsburg) has indeed started hourly rates. You have to ask about it, obviously.
With that said, as a Park Slope resident and someone who has not only had guests stay at the Comfort Inn as well as the Hotel Le Bleu, I think most of these will do ok. I had two friends from Berlin who stayed at Le Bleu and loved it. They are more used to the ugly, industrial stuff in many parts of Europe. It’s cool over there to be in NYC and be in an area like Gowanus. And you can’t beat the price when compared to Manhattan.
With all those new clubs opening up down there, I can see the allure.
I prefer my place up the hill, but love walking around down by the Gowanus. I see huge potential.
Biff- You don’t recognize Microsoft clip art? Hmmphf. You probably don’t use Clippy either. 🙂
Or is it a screenprint from SimCity?
