Get ready for the Atlantic Yards-related inconveniences to begin! As Atlantic Yards Report posted yesterday, three streets in the project’s footprint will be closed as of Feburary 1: (1) Pacific between Carlton and Vanderbilt; (2) Pacific between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue; (3) 5th Avenue between Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues. How is this likely to impact traffic in the area? “Expect a lot more traffic on Sixth Avenue between Flatbush Avenue and Pacific Street, which will become two-way,” says AYR. In addition, points out NY1, the B63 bus stop at Fifth Avenue between Pacific and Atlantic will also be eliminated.

  1. tybur – i disagree – i feel like it’s A LOT closer when driving (on the BQE or 3rd ave) than it does creeping along the R train. The R train is a dog.

  2. Oh man… Bay Ridge is soooooo far away. I forget this until I drive down there. I usually just drive down an avenue instead of that horrible highway…. The train makes it seem a little closer, but when driving you really get a clear sense of what 100+ blocks feels like.

  3. So does the B63 then turn left on Flatbush and left again on to Atlantic? Or is it left on Pacific, right at 4th, left at Atlantic? Either way there’ll be problems.

  4. oh boy, cant wait for the traffic. i dont get it, the MTA keeps slashing service, increasing prices and Mike Bloomberg encourages us to use public transportation.

i find it more convenient to drive nowadays. 2.25 a pop times 4 people that 10 bucks. i might as well spend 2.50 on gas and look for parking!
