Between 80 and 100 people showed up to a Develop Don’t Destroy-organized protest outside the Brooklyn Museum last night, according to Atlantic Yards Report, to publicly decry the cultural institution’s decision to honor Bruce Ratner at a gala. AY Report’s Norman Oder says the protest “was notably angry,” with some in the crowd holding up signs that said things like “Ratner is a liar” or calling the developer a “con artist” or proclaiming Atlantic Yards a “dung deal.” In a separate post, Oder notes that the Forest City Ratner Companies Foundation gave the museum $100,000 in 2005 and another $100,000 in 2006; the foundation’s donations from last year have not yet been disclosed. The gala last night cost from $500 to $1000+ a plate.

Nimbys that’s all they are. Those who only care about themselves and not the bigger picture only knows to cry wolf. The really displaced people weren’t there because they’re already paid off.

That is such a grand realistic post. Thank you, I have not thought of that before.
Here is the bigger picture, you will be living next to many more a Nimby and rich self serving people when this project goes through. Now that is the big picture, and it is so ironic and funny.
I think Ratner is like Mother Theresa he really cares about you!!! He is a god like figure, doing the people’s work. Didn’t you know that?
He really wants to help poor black people, really. He is not self serving. He is the world’s most selfless person. He pees gold pellets! That is the big picture, a modern day saint he is.

Typical typical comment from someone who knows nothing about organizing.
You should just admit how much you love DDDb, because with out them, you might actually have DO something other than waste your time on Brownstoner.
You love it!
Ha Ha, you can’t even put your name on a stupid blog!
Real effective
yuppie douche-bags…
The ‘ratner is a vampire’ photo on curbed is hysterical. Shades of anti-semitism, no? The chick in the picture is carrying a starbucks cup…ha ha.
Tish James has been very ineffective so far. Makes me thinks lip service is what comes out of her mouth. And she has higher political ambition, too. What has she accomplished for Brooklyn?
Actually, blustering troll hiding behind guest status at 10:08 AM, our Governor’s mansion is currently occupied by a gentleman who has repeatedly come down against eminent domain. Fort Greene representative Letitia James, whom the community spoke through by electing, has vocally denounced the project.
Your argument does not hold water.

kingstonlounge, do you know the slightest thing about fundraising for arts institutions? Regardless of what you or anyone else says, back-to-back annual donations of 100K from one person is incredibly generous (and let us not forget that Ratner donates to other organizations, so this is but a snapshot of his charitable contributions).
Running organizations is all about survival, and by not honoring Ratner, the Bklyn Museum would be jeopardizing an important source of money. Call Tish James and ask her how much money she’s secured for the Brooklyn Museum since 2005 – I’m sure it’s far less than 200K, if it’s anything at all.
I call on every person at this rally, Dan Goldstein , Norman Older and the rest of that brigade to produce their last 3yrs tax returns to show how much $ you gave to charity.
I don’t know Bruce Ratner or anyone who knows Bruce Ratner but I am willing to bet that he gives a larger % of his income to charity than anyone associated with this protest –
I know the hypocrisy – I see the condo and coop applications of all these so called “Progressives” – giving .5% of your income in the form of inflated value of clothes donated to the salvation army is not charity – it is disgusting.
