The fact that the Carlton Mews project at 233 Carlton Avenue/232 Adelphi Street in Fort Greene got a new plywood fence and olive green paint job at the end of last week has got us wondering whether the development may be getting underway soon. It was approved by Landmarks back in February but both filings for a new building were disapproved by DOB in March; no new filings since. Anyone have the straight dope?   1. i live directly across the street and let me tell you they are making an unbelievable amount of noise, whatever they’re building. why they need a guard dog is beyond me.

  2. Well, they just lost my goodwill — they’ve apparently left a “guard dog” in the site at night, and it won’t stop barking. At all.

  3. to tell the truth i thought the scheme was pretty lame. The phony-baloney mews houses, so hideous compared to the beauty of the real buildings next door, who wants to live in a knock-off?
    You know, you can live in a fancy new tower or a fancy new-old loft, or a fancy brownstone, but a psuedo-brownstone-loft? I don’t think so.
    Why don’t they just divide the lots and sell them to people to hire their own architect and build their own real house? That would be a real continuation of the history of the area.

  4. The question though, is not whether the developers are great guys, but why is the project stalled?
    Maybe too much imported brownstone?
    Maybe too expesnive in other ways?
    I don’t know if this project has any pulse left at all.

  5. I know these guys as well. Great people and do great work, they have been active in this market for years. I’m glad to see this gap filled in. Look forward to the progress

  6. The developers are great guys – very friendly, and often chat to passer by’s on the street when they visit the site.
    They are restoring all the details of the original church, and building contextual row townhouses on Carlton where cornince lines will line up with neighbors. A rare brooklyn developer.

    Townhouses will have elevators at the stoop entrance, which will open to each floorthrough condo on each floor.
    The developers are going as far as England to buy quarried stone from the original quarry where the stone was sourced in 1885, to replace the damaged and aging stone facade of the church, which is falling apart literally.
    This is a truely remarkable thing to see.
