We couldn’t resist running this photo from Chris Wood’s Flickr page showing Shahn Andersen and the Woods sealing the Broken Angel deal last weekend. Shahn clearly dressed up for the occasion! In related news, we have a tentative agreement to host the Broken Angel reno blog here on Brownstoner. How much will that rock!

  1. Yeah, it’s easy to slam someone anonymously on a blog with no evidence to back it up. If you had a real problem, you’d call HPD and report it to the city, not post it on a blog. Duh. Either you’re stupid or you are lying.

  2. wait who was the first white guy to take broken angel for a ride?

i hope these negative commenters are just baptizing Shahn by fire, making sure he’s up to the challenge. i can’t really see how any armchair developer would actually get hot under the collar over this. unless they were hoping for BA to get razed altogether.

  3. I don’t think it’s a crazy idea to develop Broken Angel into condos. The building has some notoriety and it’s been made famous by the David Chapelle movie. It’s a de-facto landmark (even if it doesn’t have that designation legally). As such, it has some sort of provenance. If the market should turn downwards these condos would potentially sell quicker than many of those coming online because it’s unique and quirky and famous.
Good luck Shahn and the Woods!
Don’t rule out the idea of including a lounge, bar or cafe on the ground floor and keeping some of the units as rentals (as in a condo-hotel or timeshare).
