After stalling out for a few months this Spring (there was speculation that it had something to do with the structure being overbuilt), work at 377 Franklin Avenue resumed a few weeks ago and is looking like it’s almost ready for walk-throughs. Even though the 12-unit building looks too bulky to us next to those brick townhouses, we’d rather see something like this (even if it is by Bricolage) than the horrible new Fedders row houses that have been spreading like a virus nearby. Anyone know who will be marketing these units?

  1. This looks a lot better in real life than on the photo – I quite like it. The apts seem to be of a nice size, and the building has a fairly airy (not so evident on the picture), modernist feel to it. A good addition to the neighborhood, it injects a little architectural diversity into the border lands between ch and bs – and will make the neighborhood better.

  2. so in the context of things, this huge ugly looking structure is better than what is otherwise consistent in the neighborhood.oh i see. whatever. they are both ugly structures, out of character for their respective neighborhoods. that is the point.

  3. We think some of you are missing our point about context. Our objection to State Street was based on context–which is a street of beautiful townhouses, not the inherent design. Likewise, here we’re saying we’d prefer this design to crappy Fedders houses, which mar much of the adjacent blocks. We’re NOT saying that we think this Franklin design is better than the State Street one.
