Ah, to be an almost-finished development in a not particularly vibrant section of Bedford Stuyvesant at this stage of the game…When we stopped by 175 Spencer Street last week, the dude charged with preventing squatters from taking over told us that the kitchens and bathrooms still needed to be built in the 35-unit building, and it didn’t sound like that was happening anytime soon. Meanwhile, its sister building across the street appears to be fully rented, judging from all the dorm-like makeshift curtains hanging in the windows.

Pretty! I love color blocking. The windows are gorgeous.
I looked at renting in the sister building across the street, and, frankly, I was tempted. The insides are pretty well done. And you get a lot more space for your money than elsewhere (at least when I was looking about a year ago). Ultimately I passed because of the neighborhood, but sometimes sitting in my tiny studio, I regret it.
I wouldn’t write these buildings off. Last year, at least, they were offering a rent-to-own option, which I’d imagine some may find appealing.
What ever happened with the Spencer development down the street? Did they eventually get their C of O?
Actually, I don’t mind them either. A little school-like, perhaps, but better looking than a lot of the craptacular stuff that gets built.
I kind of like these. This place is around the corner from the Home Depot I go to.
