12 Clermont has gotten a new face, and we have to say that it’s looking a lot better than we’d feared! It has gigantic, good-quality windows (the better to light the mezzanined spaces inside) and the height and brick choice fits in well with the neighbors. Because of the zoning, this place is commercial. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re able to attract business tenants to this location.
Development Watch: 12 Clermont Avenue [Brownstoner]
Too many recent projects try to fit in to older neighborhoods by incorporating mismatched, pseudo-Victorian details. This succeeds without them, simply by proportion and scale. The understatement and restraint help it look almost timeless and the big windows are a wonderful feature. Best of all (to my mind) is the roof railing which, while not a cornice, is certainly echoic of the cornice next door and caps the building nicely.
That’s good looking. I couldn’t tell whether it was new or renovated.

Not sure how one could possibly complain about this, since both buildings on either side look like crap.
it’s damn nice looking. considering the location (& non-landmarked I think), this could’ve turned out to be crap vs this looks real nice
