111 Lawrence Street topped out this week at 51 stories, making it the tallest building in Brooklyn. At the same time, the rental building also got a new name—The Brooklyner. The building’s developer, The Clarett Group, also released the first renderings of the 491-unit project, one of which is posted above. Occupancy is slated for late 2009/early 2010. In addition to killer views, the building will also boast 24-hour concierge service and a full fitness center.

  1. It’s not an attractive word -Brooklyner- maybe it sounds better in the original Dutch. They should take a clue from the many charming names given to buildings in the past that Montrosse is so helpfully showcasing today.

  2. From the press release:

With varying shades of earth tones and patterns reflective of Brooklyn’s historic brownstone homes and architectural elements found in the nearby neighborhood, the exterior walls are designed with a “basket-weave” aesthetic. According to Randy Gerner, AIA, Principal of GKV Architects and lead architect on the development, “The design of The Brooklyner was greatly influenced by the textures and colors of the neighborhoods that surround it. The architecture is intended to weave the urban fabric into the facade, transforming the building into a structure that is distinctly modern, attractively innovative and authentically Brooklyn.”

  3. That is an excellent image of Downtown Brooklyn with Manhattan in the background. It must be a digitally mastered photo/rendering. It makes Brooklyn look good. It even makes 111 look not bad.
At least this tower was built were it belongs, among the other tall buildings of the Downtown district. I don’t mind it. If it houses a garage and a supermarket it could be a nice place to live, especially on one of the high floors.
