It must be the time of year — every time we turn around, we’re seeing another old storefront with an unfamiliar new face, and there’s been a ton of turnover on Court Street in Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. 231 Court, the space adjacent to Miriam (which used to be the Hill Diner), has housed many different businesses in the past few years — and its most recent incarnation is Jill’s, pictured above. Anybody know what this place is all about?

The old Siam Garden at 172 Court has been revamped into Cafe Chili, a Thai place that also offers an odd sampling of American dishes, like Caesar salad. The old Bleach House storefront at 368 Court now has a brown awning with a Victorian-style awning advertising a shop called Lee Lee’s Valise — it appears to be a women’s clothing store. The new sign we were most excited to see was the one for K & Y Fruit & Vegetables between Douglass and Degraw. The unfortunate name brings to mind KY personal lubricant (not really something we want to be thinking about as we peruse the cucumbers), but this end of the neighborhood could seriously use a decent produce shop. Sure, we’ve got Park Natural, which is great, but their organic stock is so expensive.

Any other new spots on Court (or elswhere around Brooklyn) that we should know about?

  1. The lease of the vacated Fratelli deli on Court at Union has been taken over by the owner of Marco Polo. It will become takeout place for Marco Polo, but with simpler food. No ETA on when it will open.

  2. I dont know if its been mentioned here, but theres what looks like a restaurant called “moxie” down the block from the magnetic field and brooklyn tattoo,..opening soon so it says…something about “the whole family” type thing…anyone heard anything bout that?
