The frame houses, located along the path of the vanished Hunterfly Road, are the last known surviving remnants of the community of Weeksville. Founded by James Weeks in the 1830s as a free black community, by the 20th century Weeksville was swallowed up by the surrounding neighborhood. Today the five small houses are part of an educational complex that includes a modern museum building and green space that hosts exhibits, lectures and community events. Three of the houses have period interiors, each representing a different decade.
Tours have been adjusted to accommodate Covid safety guidelines. Proof of vaccination must be presented and pre-registration is required for all individual and group visits. Capacity for each tour is also capped.
Tours are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and on Saturdays at noon, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Group tour reservations are also available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. For more information on booking, visit the tour information page online.
