Weeksville Heritage Center and their resident artist, Ebony Noelle Golden, are seeking out curious, creative and committed individuals interested in exploring and being inspired by the radical roots of the free Black community.

The 2021 Freedom Fellowship program will engage at least 10 participants in a series of virtual and potentially in-person workshops delving into genealogy for Black families, story-telling, oral history and performance.

No formal training is required. Applicants just need to be at least 20 years old and interested in fully engaging in the collaborative programming centered around Black culture and liberation. Community members are particularly encouraged to apply and the program will prioritize applicants from the city and those with historic, cultural or family ties to Weeksville.

Chosen fellows will be expected to participate in all of the workshops, which will take place in February and March. Those who complete the full program will be provided a stipend of $540. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on January 22. Details on the workshops and full application information are available online via the Weeksville Heritage Center.
