The Brooklyn Skillshare is a community-based, community-led, and community-building learning event organized and taught by Brooklyn residents. Classes for the October 10th Brooklyn Skillshare include: Kombucha brewing, bike mechanics 101, screenprinting, DIY electronic audio, cooking with raw food, burlesque, and many, many more. Participants can attend as many or as few classes as they like, but are encouraged to make a day of learning. Saturday, October 10. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free. 119 8th Street, Gowanus Studio Space.

Angels and Accordions
This unique event, choreographed by Martha Bowers of Dance Theatre Etcetera, features a cast of 30 dancers, original music by Guy Klucevsek and Bob Goldberg (played live by a band of accordionists), singing, and a visual installation inside the Catacombs designed by photographer Alexander Heilner. Several tombs will be open to the public. Saturday, October 10. 12 p.m. & 3:30 p.m. Free.

Brooklyn Flea

The Brooklyn Flea takes place in Ft. Greene on Saturday and its historic Brooklyn Bridge location on Sunday. Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food. Saturday, October 10. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Lafayette Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt Avenues. Sunday, October 11. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. In Dumbo, underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the corner of Water and New Dock Street.

Lassigne Champagne Tasting

Mr. Lassigne’s wines are produced completely naturally. They are clean, fresh, complex, mineral and, most importantly, speak clearly of the singular terroir of Champagne. Roth-toberfest
The Diamond is throwing an Oktoberfest and David Lee Roth birthday celebration. Celebrate by wearing a blonde wig (it gets you a free beer) and singing along to the mighty David Lee Roth with Diamond David Lee Pollack. The Havemeyer Sugar-Sweets Bake Festival
Occupying two whole blocks on Havemeyer street in Williamsburg, the Havemeyer Sugar-Sweets Bake Festival will feature contests and activities open to the public, live music, informative tables, the M.I.L.K. stand, and an Army of Civic Bakers producing both sweet and savory pastries by the hundreds; all cakes, cookies, brownies, pies and other eatables will be for sale and comsumption. All proceeds go to the City Reliquary. Saturday October 10. 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Free. Havemeyer Street between Grand Street and Metropolitan Avenue.

Swap * Meet
Swap * Meet is a social gathering that aims to lessen the amount of clothing/textiles that will end up in landfills. Through this form of recycling, participants will benefit by swapping their unwanted clothes (or other wearable items), meeting like-minded people while satisfying the desire for attaining something ‘new’. Swappers will not accumulate debt, guilt or stress from swapping. Saturday, October 10. 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. 361 Lewis Avenue at Macon Street, Brooklyn Public Library (Macon branch).

Silent Film Series with Theater Organist Ben Model

This series highlights the early relationship between the organ and film in the days before ‘talkies’ entered the American culture. The series begins on Saturday October 10, 2009, with a showing of The Cat and the Canary (1927). The admission charge is $10, or $5 for seniors/students. 2009 Brooklyn Start! Heart Walk
Since 1924 the American Heart Association has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the ravages of heart disease and stroke. Fierce and Sweet: The 1st Annual Brooklyn Bake Off
Hayley Downs and Katie Hustead — two amateur cooks, passionate eaters and New York Cares Junior Board Members — present Fierce and Sweet a Brooklyn Bake Off to Benefit New York Cares. Tickets are $20 and include as many samples as you can wrangle, an opportunity to vote for audience favorite and automatic entry into a raffle for great prizes such as an original photograph from Jessica Schwind’s Melt series.
