Brooklyn Bicycle Jumble
JJ Byrne Park and the Old Stone House are hosting the first Brooklyn Bike Jumble, New York’s first outdoor bicycle flea market and celebration of New York City bicycle culture. Vendors will be on hand to sell bicycles and bicycle components. There will also be a classic bike show and riding lessons for the kids.

Prospect Lefferts Gardens House and Garden Tour
The 39th Annual Prospect Lefferts Gardens House and Garden Tour is back. On the tour’s 11 stops, you will be able to peak behind closed neighborhood doors and visit private gardens. The tour also includes complimentary refreshments.

Atlantic Yards Hearing
Senator Velmanette Montgomery and Councilperson Letittia James invite the public to this hearing on the status of the Ratner Atlantic Yards proposed development. “Atlantic Yards: Where are we now; How did we get here; Where is the Project going?” is intended to elicit recommendations for improved accountability and community participation.

Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea takes place outdoors in Ft. Greene on Saturday indoors in Dumbo on Sunday (last Sunday for the indoor markets!). Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry and food.

Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest
The Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest is back for its fifth year. An entire block of 5th Avenue will be allocated to the contest for spectators to observe. A percentage of the proceeds of the event will be donated to MercyFirst, a not-for-profit agency that serves more than 4,000 children, teenagers, and families annually in Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk.

The Streets of Brooklyn in Film
The Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival in partnership with Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus Media Arts Department is presenting a film conference titled “The Streets of Brooklyn in Film.” The conference will focus on the depiction of Brooklyn “street-ethos” in Hollywood films.

A People’s History of Fort Greene
Irondale presents its latest project, “A People’s History of Fort Greene.” Over the past year, Irondale has been gathering interviews and holding discussions with community members in the Fort Greene area to create an original play based on the past and ever-changing present of the neighborhood. This weekend will be the “work-in-progress” performance based on that material gathered.

Carroll Gardens and Red Hook Open Studio Tour
Brooklyn Studio Tour has organized this event which local artists will open their studios, galleries, and workspaces to the public so that people can enjoy walking through the neighborhoods and stopping in as many as they can find time for. For a complete map, click here.

Educator’s Open House at Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum
The Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum is inviting educators to learn about their educational programs. You can learn about the connections between New Amsterdam and Colonial Dutch New York, experience a few aspects of colonial life such as apple pressing and butter churning, plus visit the oldest structure in New York and New York’s First National Landmark. Third Annual Willie Mae-ra-thon
The Third Annual Willie Mae-ra-thon is an entire weekend of benefit shows for the Willie Mae
Rock Camp for Girls scholarship fund. There will be incredible acts like Parts & Labor, and Talk Normal, plus downtown horn-y stalwarts Sex Mob, funk experimenters Burnt Sugar, as well as Pterodactyl and Taigaa! at Cake Shop’s new venue, Bruar Falls, and a late-night dance party.

“New York’s first outdoor bicycle flea market and celebration of New York City bicycle culture” … I’m as big a fan of bikes and biking as the guys behind the upcoming swap meet but I know they know by now (because pissed off people have told them so) that this is *not* the first bike swap meet in NYC. And it sure as hell isn’t the first celebration of bicycle culture in Brooklyn.
Kind of reminds me of Williamsburg’s first florist.
I’m as open minded as the average Brooklyn resident, but booking a bond called “Sex Mob” for a girls summer camp benefit is “just not right”.
