NYC Pools Opening Weekend
NYC pools open this weekend, just in time for summer and the recent heat. The “Double D” Pool in Thomas Greene Park is located between Nevins Street, Third Avenue and Douglass & DeGraw Streets. The Friends for Douglass/Greene Park are celebrating the opening of the pool with free lemonade on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. They’ll be exploring renovation possibilities, such as a skatepark, a “water feature,” and other amenities.

Breathing Room Reception
On Friday, June 29, Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery hosts a free reception for Breathing Room. Curated by David Gibson, the exhibit focuses on Karen Marston’s paintings of hearts and lungs. The reception takes place from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday. 38 Marcy Avenue. (718) 387-9818.

Small Works Show
Starting on Friday, June 29, the Small Works Show, curated by installation artist Matthew McCaslin, will showcase works that are 12 inches or smaller. These works are created by local undiscovered artists. A free reception takes place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday. 440 Gallery, 440 Sixth Avenue. (718) 499-11215.

Flatbush: Electronics Recycling
From Saturday, June 30, until Monday, July 2, Flatbush is having its first ever electronics waste recycling event. Sponsored by Sustainable Flatbush and the Lower East Side Ecology Center, and co-sponsored by Flatbush Development Corporation, the event takes place on Cortelyou Road, between Rugby and Argyle. Computers, peripherals, TVs, VCRs, fax machines, cell phones, and pagers are accepted.

Real Estate Buying Guide
On Saturday, Carmen Lee Shue, of Lee Shue Realty, presents “A Practical Guide to Buying a Co-op, Condo or a House: Things you Should Know and Mistakes to Avoid.” The free talk takes place at The New Public Library, Science, Industry & Business Library, 188 Madison Avenue, at 2:00 p.m.

Subway Eating Tour
Saturday is the NY Transit Museum’s eating tour, “The F to the D: A Brooklyn Digest.” The tour will stop at points along the train route. Advance payment is necessary. It’s $45 or $40 for members. Saturday. 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call (718) 694-1600.

Green Market Opening
On Sunday, July 1, the Cortelyou Farmer’s Market will have a grand opening for their new location on the north side of Cortelyou Road, between Argyle and Rugby Roads. The market will feature locally and organically grown produce, along with musical performances, cooking demonstrations, and events for the whole family.
