Clarendon Meadows House & Garden Tour

Bushwick Open Studios
BOS brings the neighborhood’s thousands of artists and performers out into the streets and in view of each other, other community residents, and the general public – we hope to see you here! BOS2011 Festival maps and programs are available now at local businesses all around the Festival area. Programs are also available at the shows and events that are open Friday, June 3rd), including the official opening party at Pine Box Rock Shop (12 Grattan St) and the opening of Seeking Space: The BOS2011 Overflow Show (1087 Flushing Avenue). Friday, June 3rd is also our first ever Community Organization Day, highlighting many of the great organizations that serve our neighborhood – a listing of participating organizations is available in the Festival program.
Free Admission at BBG on Saturday!
BBG is inviting in visitors for free all day on Saturday to explore the new Visitor Center, check out our summer exhibit Urban Garden and enjoy music throughout the grounds. We’re calling the daylong free event Amble, and there will also be solar-powered sound installation, a children’s potting-up workshop, traditional fiddle music, guided tours, and botanical aromatherapy workshops.
Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
The Flea and Smorgasburg are on as usual this weekend. On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). Saturday at the Williamsburg location is also the home of our all-food market, Smorgasburg. The Flea features over a 150 vendors offering a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and amazing food. Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

Brooklyn Film Festival
The 2012 Brooklyn Film Festival starts this weekend! This year’s festival runs from June 1-10, and begins on Friday with an opening night party at the PowerHouse Arena in Dumbo. We have 104 films showing at the festival, which will take place at both Brooklyn Heights Cinema and IndieScreen in Williamsburg. All events listed here.
Ninth Annual Marathon Reading of “Song of Myself”
Sunday, June 3, 2012, 3:00-5:30 p.m. at Pier One… free! Led by NYU Professor Karen Karbiener, this year’s event will feature Martin Espada, current Poet-in-Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace. We’ll hear Whitman’s words in full view of his beloved Mannahatta from ‘Brooklyn’s front stoop.’ If you’d like to read, email songofmyself2012@gmail.com with your favorite three sections of “Song of Myself” (using the 1891-1892 edition’s breakdown of 52 sections). Readings will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. More info here.
Free Theater Festival at the Putnam Triangle
The Coop School presents ‘Little Red Riding Hood” on Saturday June 2nd at the Putnam Triangle, at Grand and Fulton. Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair! FREE and open to the public. Arts and Crafts start at 10:00 am, show starts at 11:15 sharp.
