Cornell ‘Healthy Pet Clinic’ at Bed-Stuy YMCA
Cornell University veterinary students, alumni and clinical faculty will provide world-class animal care at the “Cornell Healthy Pet Clinic” on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA, 1121 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn. The visit will cost owners $20, with all proceeds going to the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA. Pet owners are strongly encouraged to make appointments. The Healthy Pet Visit will include: Full physical exam, Heartworm testing (dogs), FeLV/FIV/heartworm testing (cats), vaccinations, and a one-year supply of heartworm/flea preventative and basic worming medication. The clinic will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m at the Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA, 1121 Bedford Avenue. Pet owners can bring their large dogs from 8 to 11 a.m., and noon to 3 p.m.; and cats/small dogs (beagle-size dogs) from 1 to 5 p.m

Brooklyn Youth Chorus at the Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival
Bryce and Aaron Dessner (of The National) showcase the BYC in their new BAM festival, with a performance of world premieres written for the BYC by indie-classical artists Bryce Dessner, Shara Worden and Missy Mazzoli, all of whom will perform alongside the chorus. Saturday, May 5 at 6:00PM, at Brooklyn Academy of Music BAM Café, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
The Flea and Smorg return this weekend to the great outdoors. On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). Saturday at the Williamsburg location is also the home of our all-food market, Smorgasburg. The Flea features over a 150 vendors offering a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and amazing food. Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

Congregation Beth Elohim Sanctuary Open House
On Sunday May 6, as part of the Partners in Preservation contest, BES will host an Open House from 2-5 pm called CBE Connects It’s an art event that will also be a musical event—architects Henry Grosman and Babak Bryan are creating a cool art installation in our sanctuary that will also be a musical instrument. There will be about a dozen musical acts from all over Brooklyn, and students in the synagogue’s many children’s programs will be invited to play the installation as well.

The Gowanus County Fair
The Gowanus County Fair, the 4th Annual Spring Craft Market at the Brooklyn Lyceum, will take place from 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, featuring a funky Brooklyn mix of arts, crafts, theatrical performance (Brave New World Repertory), music (Mike Block’s G.A.L.A), pizza, classes, and elephant ears. General admission is free, but you’ll need tickets for some events inside. Get tickets here!

Derby Day at Seersucker
Kentucky Derby Day marks the unofficial start to sporting seersucker duds, so where else to celebrate the “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” than at Seersucker (329 Smith St.; www.seersuckerbrooklyn.com; 718-422-0444) in Carroll Gardens? The Southern-inspired Brooklyn restaurant will be hosting its first Derby Day Party on Saturday, May 5th from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Chef/owner Robert Newton and co-owner Kerry Diamond are encouraging guests to come dressed in their Derby finest–fedoras, fascinators, bow ties, and of course, anything seersucker! In addition to a special Kentucky-influenced menu, Seersucker will also kick-off Mint Julep season with a rotating selection of seasonal variations on this classic Southern cocktail offered from Kentucky Derby Day (Sat, May 5) through Labor Day.
