As the 2011 baseball season begins, join Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman for a tour of the fascinating baseball pioneers interred at Green-Wood. We’ll visit the monuments and gravestones of Henry Chadwick, the Father of Baseball, who invented the game’s scoring system; James Creighton, baseball’s first national star; Charles Ebbets, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers; the great hitter Charlie Smith; and many others who played a role in making baseball America’s National Pastime. Saturday, April 9. 1 p.m. $10/$20. Meeting Point: Inside the main entrance at 25th St. and 5th Ave. at Green-Wood Cemetery.

Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn
At this exciting family event also a fundraiser to help support arts programs at PS 295 – kids will have a chance to climb inside, touch and explore some of the working trucks and vehicles they see in everyday life. Come and check out: an FDNY fire engine, NYPD police car, DSNY Garbage truck, Ambulance, Airstream trailer, Concrete mixer, Dump truck, Moving van and much more. Some of Brooklyn’s famed gourmet food trucks will also be selling savory treats on-site. Saturday, April 9. 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. $5. 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, PS 295.

The Brooklyn Flea
The Flea moves outdoor this weekend. On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). The Flea features over a 150 vendors offering a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and amazing food. Saturday & Sunday, April 9 & 10. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free.

Joint Concert
Grace and Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will be featured in a joint concert this Sunday. Nicholas Armstrong, Artistic Director, will conduct this joint concert. James Busby, the Chorale’s director, has prepared the Grace and Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn for the performance of the concert’s major work, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria. Come and enjoy. Brooklyn Navy Yard Tour and Studio Visit

Urban Oyster will offer a special Brooklyn Navy Yard Tour and Studio Visit as part of Obscura Day – a world-wide event that highlights expeditions, back-room tours, and hidden treasures. The tour will include a visit with Thomas Witte, who will share his Brooklyn Navy Yard-inspired art. Advanced ticket purchase is required.
